September is the month that Fall kicks off with football, Labor Day and the month we remember the 9/11 attacks on Patriot Day.

A patriot is defined as a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion. Freedom is one thing that a patriot is thankful for, passionate about, and willing to die for. That makes me think of Paul, who was passionate about our freedom in Christ inspired by the Holy Spirit, who wrote, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again” (II Corinthians 5:14-15).

Jesus Christ had the same passion about freedom and died so that we could be free from sin and death. Galatians 5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery”. Paul said that we were Christ’s ambassadors in this cause of freedom in Christ. Paul’s words closing the 5th chapter of II Corinthians: “Christ never sinned! But God treated Him as a sinner, so that Christ could make us acceptable to God.”

We who have trusted in Christ are free from sin, the law, condemnation and judgment. Let us be ones who share the good news of freedom in Christ with the passion of a patriot for the Kingdom of God!
